"
“Contrary to published reports, Larry Foote is still a member of the Pittsburgh Steelers. Any stories indicating that Larry has been released by the team are inaccurate.”

-- Steelers Communications Coordinator Dave Lockett
"

Wow... it seems all the reports about him are either incorrect or premature. Have to watch this one to see how it plays out.

Perhaps he's not lying, but he might not also be giving you the full picture. I think the Steelers are still trying to see if they can get something for him, if they can.

What a weird situation.

After reading this article, (http://www.nfl.com/news/story?id=09000d5d8101aa0d&template=without-video-with-comments&confirm=true), it would seem that it is Larry Foote that wants to leave the Steelers because he doesn't feel he's getting enough playing time. HHMMM...
He was absent from the mini-camp. And it seems like the are trying to get something from him before they have to just release him.
Keep an eye on this situation some more.

Steelers cite salary cap as reason to release veteran LB Foote

http://www.nfl.com/news/story?id=09000d5d810268ee&template=without-video-with-comments&confirm=true

Well, it is official now. I guess the early report was correct, just a little early. Perhaps the Steelers did not want that to get out so as to facilitate a trade, but who would trade for him if they know he'll be released?

"Well im going to miss him"

Yeah I think everyone will, but it's just one of those things where he's more of a luxury than a necessity. We could've kept him as I think it was primarily his motivation for leaving, and they simply just had to cite salary cap issues as the pseudo reason.

Regardless, it is a bummer, but it's also a good thing that we draft so well.

Mark Madden (105.9 the X) said on the radio yesterday that of the guys that have contracts ending after this season (09-10), Willie Parker wouldn't be one of his top two choices to re-sign (Clark and Keisel were atop his list), and in fact said he felt Mendenhall would be ready to step in as Willie's replacement next year. What do you think about that?
