" The Pirates made the difficult decision to release veteran pitcher Matt Morris on Sunday. The 33-year-old right-hander had been ineffective in five starts this season, posting an 0-4 record with a 9.67 ERA.

The Pirates made the move after Morris' start on Saturday night against the Phillies when he lasted only 1 2/3 frames. He was tagged for six runs (three earned) and six hits.
"

Somewhat of a shocking move by the administration, but really with a 9.67 ERA to start the season, and with some of the other guys in the rotation starting to turn it around already (Maholm) it seems like the best decision out there.

Unfortunately, the Bucs will still pretty much have to pay the guy around $11m.

It's pretty amazing that we took nearly an $11 million hit by basically renting this guy for a couple months. We're probably better off without him, but this is 20% of our payroll this year.
